Call it a sign of the times...Texas Tech University is getting rid of phone lines in dorms.
Apparently, most students don't use them any more. They prefer cell phones. So, Tech has decided to remove the phones and save more than $600,000 in housing costs.
Texas Tech Housing and Residence Life Managing Director Sean Duggan says, "Our research showed that 95% of students already had cell phones and were using them as their primary source of communication."
Students without cell phones will still have access to a public phone on each floor free of charge. The change will take place before residence halls open for the fall semester.
