Sex Offender Free Subdivision Hosts Grand Opening for Public - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

The unique, yet highly talked about, Northwest Lubbock subdivision has a message for sex offenders: "don't even think of moving here!"

Milwaukee Ridge is the first sex-offender-free subdivision in the nation. Developers hosted a grand opening Saturday. The idea has been gaining national attention, that's because it requires home buyers to undergo a background check before they can move in to ensure no sex offenders will live there. It's an idea developers say gives residents peace of mind.  

"You can feel free to come out here and feel comfortable with your children running around knowing there's been a background check on everyone that's living here," said the developer's father Charlie Sellers.

Milwaukee Ridge is located at 34th and Milwaukee.

Another sex-offender-free housing development is breaking ground this summer in Lenexa, Kansas, near Kansas City.
