Veteran Lubbock Police Department Captain Dies

The Lubbock Police Department lost one of its own this weekend to an apparent heart attack. Captain Victor Quintana was 44-years-old. Police say around 9 a.m. Sunday morning, Quintana began suffering from shortness of breath. As he began preparing to go to the hospital, he lost consciousness and died minutes later.

Quintana served the Lubbock Police Department for 19 years. He started in the patrol division and then moved up the ranks to corporal, sergeant, lieutenant and finally captain. Lieutenant Roy Bassett says, "He didn't need stars and stripes. When you were on call with Victor you knew things were going to be okay."

A rosary will be held in Quintana's honor Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. The funeral will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace church, located at 3107 Erskine.
