Out of 30 restaurants inspected by the Lubbock Health Department this week, only one was clean enough to be called a Food for Thought top performer. "I can't imagine anything better than being a top performer our first week," said Michele Horton. After a life-long dream of opening an Irish pub, co-owner Horton is beaming with pride. "It sounded Irish, so we used it," Horton said.
Here is a complete list of the restaurants and their violations for the week ending on 6/29/06.
Murphy's Pub at 3502 Slide Road is named after Michele's Miniature Schnauzer, and it seems that working like a dog is paying off. "I'm ecstatic that it happened so soon, and that it happened the way we wanted it to," Horton said.
And while this location may look familiar, the inside is completely new. "We completely gutted this place and cleaned it up and we want to keep it nice," Horton said.
So besides any Irish beer what does Michele recommend? "Our Irish egg rolls have been the most popular seller, but I love the shepherd's pie," Horton said.
And if you're wondering what I'm wondering - what's an Irish egg roll? "It's an egg roll wrap with corn beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes and onions," Horton said.
And no matter what you order, health inspectors say this restaurant is clean, making it a top performer. "We have four kitchen guys that all have a lot of experience from other restaurants and so we started off with people knowing what they were doing. Thank goodness! It's our top priority in our kitchen to stay clean," Horton said.
