Fireworks Ban Takes Sparkle Out of Dawson County Celebration - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

Celebrating the 4th of July may be a little difficult this year for residents of Dawson County.

Last month, county commissioners there decided to ban certain types of fireworks. The ban is similar to the one in effect in Lubbock County...meaning no skyrockets with sticks, or missiles with fins.

While this may good for fire prevention, it's not so good for business at fireworks stands. That's one reason why Mr. W's fireworks filed suit against Dawson County. A hearing is set for July 7th.

In the meantime, county commissioners are taking another step to prevent fires.  Monday they decided to close a portion of Weaver Road, located in northwest Lamesa.
