  • Fish

A diet rich in fish could help prevent the leading cause of blindness in the elderly. Two new studies show that omega-three fatty acids found in oily fish such as salmon can decrease the risk for age-related macular degeneration by more than a third. On the flip side one of the studies also found that smokers nearly double their risk of the eye condition compared with people who never smoked. Both studies are in the archives of ophthalmology.

  • Intercourse Labor

Have you ever heard that intercourse late in the pregnancy can induce labor? Researchers at Ohio State University have confirmed that's just a myth. They studied 93 women who were at least 37 weeks along. They found those who had intercourse during the last weeks of pregnancy actually delivered on average four days later than those who abstained. But perhaps more important than that, they determined that there is no harm to the newborn if parents do choose to have sex in the days before delivery.

  • Reading Language

New research shows the importance of reading to your kids before they can even say the word, "book." Harvard researchers were joined by other universities in following about 2,500 families and evaluated kids at 14, 24 and 36 months and they all agreed that the mothers who read to their babies every day ended up with toddlers with greater language comprehension, more expressive vocabularies and higher cognitive scores by age two than kids who are not read to as frequently.
