Plans Underway To Improve Traffic Flow In Southwest Lubbock

Plans to improve Spur 37 are underway. But TXdot wants to hear from you first. Tuesday night they are holding a public hearing. NewsChannel 11's Suleika Acosta shows us those changes.

TXdot is proposing changes to improve the flow of traffic through the area. One of the major proposed changes is to build a bridge here over the Frankford intersection at Spur 327.  The plan to build freeway main lanes that will extend from South Loop 289 West to Milwaukee Ave. In addition they also plan to reconstruct the frontage roads.

"People coming from the South Loop, going West or people coming from US Highway 62/82 going East, will now have to forgo having to stop at that Frankford intersection and can just go over the interchange so the traffic will flow much better," says Penny Mason with TXdot.

Before they make any changes, TXdot is asking Lubbock residents to attend a public hearing Tuesday at South Plains Church of Christ gym. That's located at 68th & Elkhart, East of Frankford. The hearing begins at 6 p.m.

If these changes are approved, construction could begin next summer. The project will take a year and a half to complete. TXdot tells us the construction will not disrupt residents or businesses in the area.
