Inhaled Migraine Treatment

When a migraine strikes, patients want fast relief. In this case, it's not the drug but the delivery system which is new and important because it's getting the drug where it needs to go faster.

The device is called the Staccato System from Alexza Pharmaceuticals. It looks like an inhaler but inside, the medicine is in a thin film enough for one dose. When you inhale, the Staccato rapidly heats the film and Aerosolizes the dose which sends it into the lungs faster and moving into the blood stream at a rate as fast as an IV infusion.

Studies so far show more than 40% of patients were pain free within two hours. It's not available yet. We'll keep you posted. For more information go to www.alexza.com/novel/novel.php.
