My name is Antonia Ortega Flores.
I was born in El Paso County, Texas. When I was 5-years-old, we moved to San Saba, TX, and then on to Lubbock, TX. I went to Cooper schools until I was 10-years-old. We finally ended up in Lynn County and I went to school in the small town of New Home, TX.
I came from a large family of 11 children! One of our neighboring families also had 11 children and I married one of the boys Aisor "Ike" Flores in 1963 and we have been married 43 years! We have two children Rebecca and Ernesto, and we have two beautiful granddaughters Angela and Valerie.
After my two children were old enough to stay at home, I went to work, I've been a certified nurse's assistance for more then 25 years, in between that I took some time and went to business college, but my love of working in hospitals took me back to nursing.
In 1997, I decided that I needed a break from nursing, and went to work for a small collections company. I traveled all over this country for almost 10 years. I met a lot of people, some of them nice and some of them not so nice. It was a great adventure for me every where I went, with both good and bad experiences.
I learned a lot on my travels, but decided that it was time to slow down again.
I came to Grace House of Lubbock, in June of 2005. I've been here a year now, I started as a Care Giver, and I'm now the Activity Director. I love being here and really enjoy getting to know and work with the residents.
