Leal's: The Story of a Family Restaurant

The smell of the food may be what gets you inside but that's not what keeps people coming back.

A waitress we spoke with says, "A lot of people travel through and say they have to eat here when they travel through."

Customers add, "We come over from Clovis. The food is great."

Owner Jesse Leal says, "Our quality remains and the flavor and the service and their showing their appreciation. I think that's part of what makes them come back."

Son, Sergio says, "There is a lot of return and repeat business. When you walk in here, it's like family, especially here in Muleshoe."

That's because Leal's is the first restaurant Jesse and Irma Leal opened in Muleshoe, back in 1957.

Daughter Laura says, "We just grew up here and it's just been a part of our lives ever since we were born."

Sergio adds, "As soon as we could see over the tables, we were busing them."

Sergio runs the tortilla factory and Laura owns two Leal's restaurants in Clovis. They say it's the Muleshoe restaurant that feels most like home. L

aura says, "Muleshoe, they have been very great for the family. They have supported what my mom and dad started here. Because of this town, we're able to do what we're  doing now."
