Your city taxes could be going up, if city council says yes to a proposal from City Manager Lee Ann Dumbauld. During Tuesday's city council meeting, Dumbauld told council members, city hall needs a three cent tax rate increase to keep current city services going.
That increase would also raise the taxes on your home. The proposal comes after three straight years of city council lowering taxes to offset rising appraisal numbers. Council is expected to vote on the tax rate after the summer.
The request comes as the Lubbock Central Appraisal District releases its certified property appraisals. Chief Appraiser Dave Kimbrough tells us the average value of a home in Lubbock went up about 5.5%.
