Crosbyton to Honor Soldiers With a Memorial

Crosby County has a rich military history with veterans from the Spanish-American war to the current Iraq war. Soon all soldiers will be honored with the construction of the Crosby County Area Veterans Memorial. It was an idea sparked by a letter to the editor of the local paper back in 2003. Jeanie Appling mentioned it to a few people and decided to head the project. She has been raising money ever since.

Appling says, "We didn't ask for a price per name so to speak. We just asked people to give donations."

$83,000 has been raised so far. The memorial will feature more than 2,000 names and will be dedicated on September 11th. If you would like to show your support for the memorial, you can make a donation at any Citizens National Bank in Crosbyton.
