Andrew Velez Remembered In Prayer Service

The life of fallen soldier Andrew Velez was celebrated with a prayer service Friday morning in Lubbock.

"It's not about my sons, it's about every soldier, it's about unity and love," Roy Velez said.

Andrew's father spoke to supporters who gathered for the service at University Medical Center's chapel. Many in attendance worked with Andrew's mother at the hospital. This is an especially difficult time for the Velez family, because this is the second time they will have to bury a son. Andrew's older brother Freddy died two years ago while serving in Iraq.

Department of Defense Investigates Velez's Death The Department of Defense now indicates that Velez suffered gunshot wounds in a non-combat related incident. And, that his death is under investigation.
