Velez Death Under Investigation

The Department of Defense now indicates that Velez suffered gunshot wounds in a non-combat related incident. And, that his death is under investigation.

Representatives at Fort Irwin, where Velez was based, tell NewsChannel 11 that an investigation following the death of a soldier is not uncommon. NewsChannel 11 will continue to follow the investigation, to bring you the latest as it becomes available.

The life of fallen soldier Andrew Velez was celebrated with a prayer service Friday morning in Lubbock. This is an especially difficult time for the Velez family, because this is the second time they will have to bury a son.
