Rising temperatures are prompting Lubbock utility companies to offer relief to some customers.
Lubbock Power and Light Information Coordinator Chris Sims says, "LP&L announced new emergency disconnection rules effective immediately for three classes of customer that last through September 30, 2006."
To be eligible for the new emergency rule, LP&L customers must fall into the following categories; critical care customers who can provide a letter from their physician, elderly low-income customers who can prove their age and low-income customers who show proof of income for everyone in the household.
Xcel is offering similar relief to its customers. They will not disconnect services to certain customers, but stress the payment will still be due. Xcel spokesman Wes Reeves says, "It's a way to protect those who are at their weakest point and give them a little chance to catch up without disconnecting their service."
If using the relief service, both LP&L and Xcel customers must set up payment plans. For more information, contact your utility provider.
