Lubbock Cotton Kings Speak Out

One day after the Lubbock City Council adopted a new lease with the Cotton Kings, the hockey team is speaking out. Cotton Kings General Manager Todd Chisnell says, "For every dollar the city has paid the Cotton Kings, the city has received $5 in return. Let's look at the truth and stop using the word subsidizing. There seems to be a perception that the Cotton Kings are funded by the tax payers of Lubbock and we just wanted to set the record straight on this. In this team's history, we have never called a press conference to discuss the economic value this city receives from the Lubbock Cotton Kings and now its time to do so."

Chisnell released economic numbers that showed the city has paid the Cotton Kings more than $658,000 over the past seven years. That number includes advertising and coliseum improvements. The Kings say they have paid the city more than $3 million in concessions, tickets, rent, advertising, parking and rent.
