Kansas Group To Protest at Lubbock Soldier's Funeral

Thursday, memorial services will be held for a fallen Lubbock soldier and authorities have been put on alert.

A group out of Kansas is planning to protest Andrew Velez's memorial service.  They will have to stay at least 500 feet away. Senator Robert Duncan of Lubbock sponsored a bill making it illegal to protest near a military funeral. It went into effect back in May.

The memorial service is Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene. Velez was killed in Afghanistan last week.

Family Remembers Fallen Soldier
Friends and family of fallen soldier Andrew Velez gathered Monday night to celebrate his life.  Andrew was killed in Afghanistan last week.  The family tells us the community's support is a real comfort.  They've received hundreds of calls, letters, e-mails, and other well-wishes.
