New Details Surrounding Nelson's Arrest

The circumstances surrounding the arrest of Jonathan Nelson are no longer a mystery.

According to the Snyder Daily News, the man who embezzled nearly $80 million from Patterson UTI, contemplated suicide shortly before turning himself in, back in November. That is one of three reasons. Second, because the receiver handling the case still cannot account for $18 million. Finally, Nelson and his parents have moved from their Littlefield home to a ranch in Aspermont. That is a remote location which makes electronic monitoring difficult.

U.S. District Judge Sam Cummings reportedly signed the order for his arrest. Federal court documents indicate that attorneys had reason to believe that Nelson may contemplate suicide again, if given the opportunity.

Nelson remains in the Taylor County Jail.  He is awaiting a transfer back to the Lubbock County Jail, where he will likely remain until his sentencing.
