Remember Lazarus? The Lubbock five year old had two prosthetic ears but lost one and was hoping it could be replaced before his first day of school. True to the generosity of this area, the donations came in.
So, we caught up with a sleepy Lazaras and his mom at the airport early this morning.
"I just want to say thank you again to the community for helping us achieve our goal," said Paula Maya, Lazarus's mom.
Lazaras and his mom were off to Dallas today where artists poured the mold for a new ear this afternoon. Tomorrow, they'll paint it to match his skin color. Monday, he'll start kindergarten with both ears, just like all the other kids.
Paula tells me they needed three thousand dollars for the replacement ear. But they got six thousand which is enough to insure the ear and the hearing aids this time, in case he loses them again.
