One out of every ten people in the West Texas region has a substance abuse disorder, according to a government survey. That's why the Texas Tech Health Science Center said it's going to take a stand against that by creating the Giles C. McCrary endowed chair in addiction medicine.
"The endowed chair makes it possible to not only do treatment here in the area but also research associated with it. So it is a real opportunity to answer some very important questions," said Greg Schrimsher, an Assistant Professor with TTUHSC.
Researchers at Tech are hoping to not only reach people in Lubbock who are fighting addiction but find ways to provide treatment to those in rural counties as well.
