Rain is delaying the landfill search for Lubbock teen, Joanna Rogers.
Investigators now expect to begin by the end of the week. Phase one is expected to take a few days. A contractor will remove the dirt from the area of interest. Then, investigators will search for clues and evaluate any evidence they may find. That could take two to four weeks.
Sheriff David Gutierrez says, "Investigators have followed hundreds of leads and we're hoping this new information will put to rest the issue of Joanna Rogers."
Rogers has been missing since May 2004. Two months ago, Rosendo Rodriguez confessed to strangling the teen, putting her body in a suitcase and throwing it in a dumpster. He's the same man who's charged with capital murder in the death of Summer Baldwin. Baldwin's body was found inside a suitcase at the city landfill last September.
