Tai Chi & Diabetes Study

Tai Chi isn't just for older folks. In fact, when a certain study comes together at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, you're going to see a lot of young people doing moves like these.

If they have type two diabetes. Texas Tech's School of Nursing is beginning an important study on the effects of Tai Chi on patients with type two diabetes. Aside from the benefit of exercise, patients in the study will get a free glucose meter and free test strips during the twelve week study.

Debra Flores, the project coordinator, says they are looking for 100 patients to begin the study. Anyone between twenty to seventy years old who has type two diabetes preferably non-smokers because that effects the results and preferably that they are not currently exercising because that will effect whether or not we can figure out if it is effective or not," said Debra Flores.
