The entire investigation into the death of Kay Harrelson and the search for Peggy Merimon is now in the hands of the Lubbock Police Department. Tuesday, the Lubbock Sheriff's office turned over its findings making police the lead investigators.
Both women disappeared from the Lubbock State School August 9th. Volunteer searchers found Harrelson's body Sunday in a ditch near Shallowater. Meriman is still missing. A person of interest has been questioned but no one has been arrested. They are still waiting for the results of DNA testing.
Police Chief Claude Jones says while the Lubbock Police Department is the lead investigators in this case, they are being assisted by the Lubbock Sheriff's Office, the Texas Rangers and some federal agencies.
