Food for Thought Report 9.7

The Food for Thought list starts at the top this week - where we find three top performers.

Taco Villa at 8212 Indiana wrapped up their inspection with a perfect score - zero critical violations.

No matter which department you are heading to inside the United Supermarket at 2630 Parkway Drive, expect perfection. The bakery, deli, meat and produce markets all are top performers.

And finally, the produce department inside the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 1911 4th Street is a top performer, their inspection was flawless as well.

Here is a complete list of the restaurants and their violations for the week ending on 9/7/06.

No for our low performers.

The restaurant inside Embassy Suites at 5215 South Loop 289 had four critical violations.

  • Chicken wings were found cooling on a counter top.  An employee told inspectors that he cools them off with the use of a fan.
  • Cooked spaghetti was 75 degrees. Cold foods must be 41 degrees or colder.
  • Diced ham and sausage were found without a datemark.
  • Thermometer was missing in reach in cooler.

The report shows all violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.

Tator's Sports Grill at 5001 Avenue Q had five critical violations.

  • Lunch meat, hot dog's and cheese were found between 45 and 47 degrees.  Cold foods must be held at the safe temperature of 41 degrees or below.
  • There was no soap at a kitchen hand sink.
  • Glass cleaner was found next to plastic food containers.
  • Food contact surfaces were soiled.
  • And finally, a consumer advisory was not posted near the buffet table alerting customers to use a clean plate each time.

The report shows the restaurant was given four days to correct all the violations.

Inspectors cited Stone Gate Sports Bar and Grill with six critical violations.

  • Sliced onions were found soiled.
  • Hot dogs, ham and turkey were found with expired date markings.
  • Flies were found throughout the kitchen area and gnats were found throughout the bar.
  • Rodent droppings were found in cabinet in kitchen area.
  • Spray bottle containing a cleaning solution was not marked.
  • And finally, soiled plates were stored under a cabinet and soiled cups were stored on shelves.

The report shows most of the violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.
