Healthy Fair Food

Most people will tell you it's okay to treat yourself every once in a while, even if you are on a diet , especially at the South Plains Fair. After all, the first thing you notice when you get here is the smell of all your favorite fair foods.

But did you know fair food doesn't have to be fattening? We sent our cameras in search of leaner treats with some guidance from nutritionist, Shelly Fillipp. Here are some good options we found:

  • Grilled chicken salad
  • Roasted corn or corn on the cob - (skip the butter)
  • Baked potato with broccoli and a little cheese on it - (skip the butter) 
  • Smoked turkey legs - remember dark meat is a fatter meat
  • Beans and cornbread
  • Pig on a stick - skip the roll 

We learned you do have some healthier food options out here if you're trying to fit the fair into a balanced diet.

When eating at the fair, eat in moderation or share with a friend.
