Tuberculosis is a disease that can be passed from person to person through a cough. Even though we don't hear about it much anymore, there are still nearly two million TB deaths every year.
Here's what's new, researchers have developed a new TB test called MODS, which stands for Microscopic Observation Drug Susceptibility. This new test can diagnose TB faster, in just seven days instead of the twenty-six it takes now to get test results.
Perhaps the best advancement is that this test can also determine if the strain of TB is resistant to antibiotics, that means doctors will be able to prescribe drugs that they know will work in treating TB right away.
