Dating and Smoking

For parents who are trying to hold off their adolescents from dating, a new study in the Journal of Addiction may give you more ammunition to stick to your guns.

The study of 2,000 kids finds those who are allowed to date before age thirteen are three times more likely to start smoking in high school. The findings were especially pronounced in pre-teen girls who were allowed to "date" early, those girls were as much as nine times more likely to start smoking by their 16th birthday.

The study led by researchers at University College London and published in the Journal, Addiction.
