The Texas Tech Health Sciences Center received a huge gift today that is more than just a coup for the university. This new Multiple Sclerosis endowment, a gift from the Teva Corporation, will help establish a specialty clinic at the Health Sciences Center to help the many patients who suffer from MS.
"There are probably 15-20,000 people in the state of Texas who have MS and maybe 800-1,000 new people with the disease diagnosed each year,"said Dr. Randy Schiffer, of the TTUHSC of Neuropsychiatry.
"Obviously this is just a first step, but as time goes on, I think this is a really great commitment for the medical school," said Dr. Steve Berk, of the TTUHSC-Medical school.
Right now, there are only four MS treatment centers in Texas. So, this endowment is huge in that it will help bring a much needed specialty clinic into the West Texas region.
