Fitness & Fertility

Another problem that comes with Americas obesity epidemic more and more women are having trouble getting pregnant. So, more and more doctors are prescribing willpower as fertility treatment.

"I feel like I'm trying to get my body in the best condition it can be for having a baby,"said Fran Carey, a fertility patient.

"It's exciting because these are poor prognosis patients. These are women that are not easy to get pregnant," said Dr. Laurence Jacobs, a Reproductive Endocrinologist.

Fran has been given a weighted exercise vest and told to workout thirty minutes, twice a day even if it's just doing the housework, or walking around the block.

Dr. Jacobs say women who are obese, or have a specific condition called Poly cystic Ovarian Syndrome, may wind up with too much insulin in their bodies to become pregnant. So, he says losing weight can at least improve the odds.

Of course, Dr. Jacobs says there are many other reasons for infertility but among those who have stayed in his fitness program, half who thought they could not get pregnant, got pregnant.
