There's a teacher who enjoys educating her students about reading just as much as she enjoys to read. And she keeps her students engaged in learning grasping an interest in reading that many of them never had. NewsChannel 11's Nicole Pesecky takes us into Akins Middle School to honor a much appreciated reading teacher, Reva Alexander. She's this week's teacher you can count on.
Her students love going to her class. They love to read telling NewsChannel it's fun and for some it's their favorite subject. But that's not the case for every student that walks into Reva Alexander's classroom. But, that's not discouraging this passionate teacher.
One of her students says, "She's taught me how to read better and reading is a little bit more fun than I thought last year."
And this teacher enjoys teaching her students the subject just as much as she enjoys doing it herself.
Reva says, "I love to share my stories and books with the students, a lot of them don't like the stories I like but they do enjoy sometimes listening to the story."
Reva also takes her kids to the library and let's them pick out any book they would like to read.
Reva says parents should be actively involved in their kids lives especially when it comes to reading, "I'm a firm believer that parents should play a firm role in their children's education."
And after 35 years of teaching at Akins, this teacher has had one motto the entire time, "My motto is strive to do the best that you possibly can, always that there is good in everyone and everyone needs to try to do the very best that they possibly can."
You can nominate your favorite teacher, just send an email to teacher at KCBD.com. The teacher must work in the LISD.
