This teacher believes parent involvement is a huge part of her students lives. She has a unique teaching style that keeps her kids engaged in learning. NewsChannel 11's Nicole Pesecky takes us into Stewart Elementary School to honor a much appreciated third teacher, Andrea Gibson. She's this week's teacher you can count on.
These third graders are already excellent readers, but now they're learning to be good listeners as their teacher Andrea Gibson reads to them. It's a tale that is "long" on life lessons.
Brandon her student says, "It's taught me not to be greedy and take stuff for my own and to share with their people."
And reading isn't the only subject this teacher is tackling. These kids are working on everything from vocabulary to multiplication tables.
Andrea says, "In science they're studying the solar system they made at home which was again parental involvement, involving them and their parents to come up with the project."
Parent involvement is key for this teacher, she focuses on projects the students and their parents can work on together. And it's that method, Gibson hopes will keep the kids engaged in learning.
