Governor Rick Perry is taking a bold step that could ultimately save the lives of a lot of young girls in Texas.
Today, he issued an executive order, requiring all girls to get vaccinated against the Human Papilloma Virus before they go into the 6th grade.
That sexually transmitted disease is believed to be one of the leading causes of cervical cancer. Health experts applaud the decision as an important step in cancer prevention.
However, parents may choose to opt out for certain reasons including religious beliefs.
The vaccine will be given in 3 doses over 6 months.
