Imagine one day you feel fine, the next day you find out you need to be hooked up to a dialysis machine three days a week for the rest of your life. That's a real concern since kidney disease can sneak up on you quietly, especially if you already have high blood pressure or diabetes.
"Usually when it comes to kidney problems there are no signs like pain or anything that will alert someone that they have a problem and so this is a silent disease," said Dr. Maybin Simfukwe, of the Kidney Foundation.
That's why the Kidney Foundation is offering free screenings to check for kidney disease this Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Parkway Neighborhood Center.
