SPC Lady Texans Whip Weatherford in Semis

Dominic Seals scored 25 points and Ashlee Roberson added 23 as the South Plains College Lady Texans moved into the championship game of the Region V Tournament with a 91-64 win over Weatherford College Saturday afternoon in Belton.

No. 3 South Plains (31-1) will take on No. 4 Odessa in the championship game Sunday at 2 p.m. It will be the fourth meeting between SPC and Odessa this season. The Lady Texans have won 2 of the 3 games.

Against Weatherford, South Plains used an early 12-1 run to go ahead 12-3 and they never trailed after that. SPC led by as many as 18 (39-21) in the first half but Weatherford was able to close within 12 (45-33) at halftime.

The Lady Coyotes then scored the first six points of the second half to cut the deficit to 6. But SPC went on a 12-0 run to regain control. Their largest lead was 29 (81-52) with 5:24 remaining.

Seals had 25 points and 12 rebounds, Roberson added 23 points, Mariame Djouara scored 13, Brittany Blackmon had 12, Ashley Frazier added 10, Ashely Malone scored 4 and had 10 rebounds, and Alana Rumph and A.J. Adams each added 2 points.

For Weatherford, Erika Ferrelll scored 25. The win by SPC also tied the school record for most wins in a season. The 2004-05 team also had 31 victories.
