SPC Texans Advance to Regional Finals

The South Plains College Texans moved into the Region V Championship game with a 55-46 win over Howard College Saturday in Belton.

The Texans (26-6) will face Midland College Sunday at 5 p.m. in the championship game.

South Plains trailed 25-21 at halftime, but Howard only made five field goals in the second half, shooting just 17 percent from the field.

The Texans did not take their first lead until the 14:20 mark of the second half when Jonathan Hall hit a jumper. SPC used a 11-3 run to go ahead 40-30.

Howard got as close as five on two different occasions but SPC made six free throws in the final 4 minutes to seal the win.

For South Plains, Steve Harley led the way with 21 points, Jermaine Bolden added 11, Malik Motnii had 10, Luciano DeSouza scored 9, and Jonathan Hall and Lu Griffin each added 2.

For Howard, Sean Watson scored 12 points.
