The Susan G. Komen for the Cure has recently provided more than $200,000 in grants for breast cancer screening and treatment programs in this area.
So Tuesday, all the caregivers and volunteers benefiting by that grant money met at Hillcrest Country Club to outline all the efforts here to find and fight breast cancer. For one, did you know the YWCA is available to women who need, but can't afford, a mammogram to check for breast cancer?
"Our focus is on women who are uninsured 200 percent of the poverty level and that have no other resource. That's why our services are all free. And if they meet our guidelines, then it's all free," said Eleanor Greiner, director of the YWCA Breast and Cervical Initiative.
The annual Komen Race for the Cure is the organization's biggest fundraiser enabling programs like the one at the YWCA to provide some direction to women who need free breast exams.
