Food for Thought Report 1.17

It's a record. One Lubbock restaurant has made the top performing list for the seventh consecutive time. It's a burger joint in north Lubbock, and in case you didn't bite the first time, maybe its seventh top performance in a row is enough to tempt your taste buds.

This place is hot, and we're not joking. Seven inspections in the last 3 1/2 years have resulted in a wall full of top performing plaques. Since Food for Thought began in 1998, Tommy's Famous Drive In at 117 North University has been inspected seven times and every single time they are a top performer with zero critical violations.

"We just keep clean and serve the best food in town. We try to," says Manager Rosa Laredo. Laredo says it's simple. They just take care of business, and it might help that Tommy's keeps good people in place. Laredo has been managing Tommy's for 22 years now. "I feel good. It makes me feel good. I know I'm doing my job."

Our other top performer this week is just a hop, skip and a jump from Tommy's. United Supermarket at 112 north University is a top performer this week. The Bakery, the Meat Market, and the Grocery all three had zero critical violations.
