More than 20 million Americans have diabetes. At least 14 million of those are fortunate in that they know they have it and can get treatment, while the other six million are unaware and at risk of serious complications.
Tuesday is National Diabetes Alert Day. That's when the American Diabetes Association encourages everyone to get their blood sugar tested because a little finger prick is a lot better than the alternative.
The Larry Combest Wellness Center is run by the Texas Tech School of Nursing. That's where you can get your blood sugar tested for just $5 and you don't ever need an appointment. Just stop by the clinic at 301 40th Street any day between 8am and Noon and 1pm and 5pm.
