Take the Diabetes Quiz

Pat Donley Pat Donley

It is sadly ironic that this is Diabetes Alert Day and about 300 people went to a funeral in Lubbock Tuesday afternoon for a man who lost his battle with diabetes after years of complications.

Pat Donley was a pastor at St. Luke's Methodist Church in Lubbock for 38 years. It was always his passion to help others, so in Pat's honor, we are offering the diabetes quiz so you can find diabetes early and get treatment if you need it.

  • If you have a parent with diabetes, that's 1 point
  • If you have a sister or brother with diabetes, 1 point.
  • If you are a woman who has had a baby weighing more than nine pounds at birth, 1 point.
  • If you are thirty pounds overweight or more, 5 points.
  • If you are under age 65 and you get little or no exercise, 5 points.
  • If you are between the ages of 45 - 64, 5 points.
  • Finally, if you are over age 65, give yourself 9 points.

Now add up your points. If you scored ten or more points, then you are considered high risk for diabetes and you should be tested.

That simple finger prick is easily available at the Combest Wellness Center. The Tech Nursing School runs the clinic and offers diabetes screening for just $5...less if you can't afford it. Just go to 301 40th Street any weekday from 8 a.m. to Noon or from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
