New Hope for Those With Rare Cancer

New hope for people who have a rare, and often fatal, form of cancer. The FDA has approved the drug Gleevec for use in treating one type of stomach cancer. Gleevec was initially approved as a treatment for adult Leukemia, but now appears to also help patients with what's called Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors.

About 5,000 people a year develop that deadly disease. Now the FDA says Gleevec appears to target and kill those cancer cells without harming healthy tissue, and without severe side effects.
