Buddy Holly's Name Will Be Removed from Lubbock Sites

The name Buddy Holly is now beginning to fade away from the Hub City. The motion to remove Holly's name from the walk of fame and terrace passed unanimously at the city council meeting on Thursday.

Mayor David Miller remarked on the subject after the vote was finalized, "Motion carries 6-0 with regrets to our citizens and to all Buddy Holly fans around the world."

Those places will now be called the West Texas Walk of Fame, these changes come after Holly's widow, Maria Elena Holly, asked that Civic Lubbock pay licensing fees to her for the use of the name.

Civic Lubbock didn't give us specifics, but tells us Maria Elena wanted between $6,500 and 10,000 in licensing rights.
