Lubbock residents could soon be saying play ball in Southwest Lubbock County. Thursday, the Lubbock City Council approved $12 million to turn land at FM 1585 and Milwaukee into a youth sports complex.
They say the city already owns 160 acres out there. The complex will include multiple softball, and baseball fields. Construction will begin this summer and take about a year to complete.
Also at Thursday's council meeting, several Lubbock groups presented the design for a proposed mercado at North University and 4th Street. They showed the renderings they had worked on for more than six months.
If approved, the mercado would have indoor and outdoor space, cafes, shops and other stores.
