Lubbock police release dash-cam video that shows exactly what happened during Thursday's officer-involved shooting. LPD Officer Chris Miller shot 41-year-old Domingo Flores Junior, after Flores reportedly pointed a gun at officers.
Flores had apparently threatened to shoot his wife, and was firing a gun in the neighborhood of 39th and Avenue N when police were called to the scene Thursday evening. At last report, Flores remained in critical condition at University Medical Center.
The dash-cam video shows Flores pointing at police. You can also hear Officer Miller repeatedly telling Flores to drop his weapon. Miller repeats the command in English and Spanish more than 20 times, but Flores does not drop the gun.
Police tell us Flores first shot toward a brown truck parked on 39th Street outside his home. Then, Flores raised the gun towards police officers. That's when Miller takes the shot. Flores immediately falls to the ground, and police the rush to search the home and provide medical help.
NewsChannel 11 also obtained a copy of the 911 call that brought police to scene in the first place. "My neighbor has a gun, and he's shooting. I don't know what he's shooting at," the caller said.
"His daughter and son just came, ran next door to my house. They said their dad's shooting. We can hear him shooting the gun, and he said the he's going to shoot their mother if she comes back home," the caller continued.
Initially police told us Flores' wife had run for help, but Thursday we learned from the 911 caller that Flores' children ran for help. The wife was apparently at work.
"A lot of people like to think you can shoot a gun out of somebody's hand, but in real life, that's just not the case. From everything that I see right now, officer acted within policy," Lubbock Police Chief Claude Jones said.
Police recovered a 38 Caliber revolver at the scene. Flores now faces charges of attempted capital murder.
Officer Miller is at home, on scheduled days off. Chief Jones they'll wait and see when he is comfortable to come back.
