Two Women Killed in Collisions Near Littlefield

Two area women are dead following a series of collisions near Littlefield overnight.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Corporal John Gonzalez, the collision occurred just after midnight Friday on Highway 385, about four miles north of Littlefield.

Helen Thompson Campbell, 67, of Levelland, reportedly cut off oncoming traffic when she entered the roadway. Her 1982 Chevrolet Silverado struck a 2007 GMC Yukon, and came to rest in a bar ditch. Campbell died at the scene.

The driver of the Yukon, Carla Sue Bradley, 44, of Dimmit, stepped out of her vehicle, and used her cell phone to call for help. A passing semi swerved to avoid the crash scene, but the trailer clipped the driver's side of the Yukon, which sent the SUV careening into Bradley. Aerocare flew Bradley to University Medical Cener, where she later died.

Gonzalez says weather may have played a role in the accident.

We are starting off the weekend cool, but warmer temperatures are on the way along with a break from high winds today. Sunday we will a combination of warm temperatures and southwesterly winds sustained at 20-30 mph in the afternoon hours. With high temperatures, low relative humidity values and high winds, we will see the return of an elevated risk for wildfires.
