Crews are moving a major water line and the city won't be able to meet increasing demands while that line is out of service. So they put restrictions into place on Friday because of the construction on the Marsha Sharp Freeway. The major pump station along the Marsha Sharp Freeway is off-line until crews can relocate a large water main. This pump station is critical to feeding water to major portions of Lubbock. So now residents are restricted to limited watering of flower beds and gardens.
Tom Adams the acting City Manager says, "We are looking at calling for stage 4 until Monday, and then we will reassess where we are and then look at this on a week by week basis."
The water main project is expected to be finished by the end of the month. Anyone caught watering their lawns while the restrictions are in place will receive a warning. If they continue, they will receive a citation.
