Parents of some autistic children allege a preservative used in some routine childhood vaccines caused autism and other health problems. For the first time, those claims are being heard in federal court. Six to nine test cases will be heard over the next few months. The results could end up providing compensation for the parents of more than 5,000 children.
Researchers are studying the possible link between antibiotics and children with asthma. They have examined medical records of more than 13 thousand children up to seven years old. They found children who had been exposed to antibiotics several times before turning one were more likely to develop asthma later in childhood. However, they say more study is needed.
