A group of Lubbock volunteers are out to change the world, one home at a time.
Lubbock World Changers Community Outreach, Inc. (LWCCO) is working to eliminate sub-standard housing in our community, in conjunction with the City of Lubbock's Community Development, Storm Water, Solid Waste, Water Conservation/Education Codes Enforcement and Parks/Recreation Departments and Keep Lubbock Beautiful.
Two hundred eighty-five volunteers arrived in Lubbock over the weekend, to help paint and rehabilitate 15 houses.
World Changers began in 1991, with a vision to eliminate sub-standard housing in the United States. World Changers works with local cities to repair and refurbish owner homes. And since its inception, World Changers has mobilized 70,000 volunteers and repaired more than 5,000 homes around the country.
LWCCO will supplement local volunteer participant fees, purchase tools and equipment, and supply materials now provided or donated.
World Changers Lubbock 2006 was a major success, with 265 participants completing work on 14 homes/projects in five days. Some homes received new roofs, siding, trim repair, and fresh coats of paint.
On Wednesday, the group will enjoy a Thank You Dinner at Joyland, courtesy of Keep Lubbock Beautiful. Closing celebrations will be held Friday at Ed Irons Middle School.
