Valentine's Day Gifts and their Health Benefits

If your Valentine gifts included a little wine and chocolate, your sweetheart may be doing you a favor, HealthWise. More and more studies point to both as beneficial to the heart, if they are enjoyed in moderation. Like most treats, these come with some guidelines, as explained by Dr. Ron Cook. "Chocolate has lots of antioxidants. We use it as kind of a measure. Kidney beans have a lot. Dark chocolate has even four times the amount that kidney beans do. The red wines are better too than the white wines. They also have lots of antioxidants in them as well," says Dr. Cook.

Dr. Cook adds that a study by the CDC has shown that women especially can reduce their risk of Heart Disease by drinking two to three glasses of wine a day. But, speaking conservatively, he says, he prefers to think of wine in moderation as one to two glasses a day.
