Food for Thought Report 6.14

Jin's Asian Buffet at 906 50th Street had seven critical violations. This is the fourth time the buffet has been a low performer since it opened just six months ago. We went inside the restaurant to review the violations with their manager Joe Chew.

Here is a complete list of the restaurants and their violations for the week ending on 6/14/07.

  • Multiple food items were between 44 and 52 degrees. Cold foods must be 41 degrees or colder.
  • Fried fish was below the safe temperature of 135 degrees.

"I see on your inspection they suggest you rotate the food and make sure you throw out after a few hours. Is that something that you are now implementing?" asked NewsChannel 11.

"Ah, yeah. That's what we're gonna do," Chew said.

  • An employee's drink was stored above a food prep surface.
  • A can was dented.

"That is just a small dent; just one," Chew said.

  • A hose was on the floor with no backflow prevention device. This protects the water from contamination.

"The spay hose on the floor... everything is very good just the little things that my employees careless," Chew said.

  • A sanitizer was too strong.
  • Soiled clothes were on a counter.

Chew says they are under new management and customers can expect some positive changes.

"We gonna have the inspector come in again and go through everything with me and just make sure every thing's good," Chew said.

Chew says all violations have been corrected. The report states all but one of the violations were corrected while the inspector was there.
