If you see sprinklers watering fields within the Lubbock Independent School District, the district is not in violation. Lubbock I.S.D. has seventeen active water wells, dug four years ago in an effort to conserve water.
"We may have to utilize those wells to water the athletic fields," said Wayne Havens, Lubbock I.S.D. Superintendent. "But we've chosen not to water at all right now, just so the community doesn't feel like we're not being a partner."
Havens says fields may need to be watered soon, because it is dangerous for athletes to play on turf that is too hard.
